Apprenticeship Description:

This program provides an opportunity for individuals currently employed in the industry to acquire recognized certification of their skills and knowledge. The program consists of an in-school curriculum and an on-the-job training component.

The Dairy Herdsperson Apprentice Program is the first in a series of agriculture apprenticeships developed by the industry with assistance from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). The Dairy Herdsperson Apprentice program is a joint venture between the employer, MTCU, the Kemptville Campus and the University of Guelph.
Dairy Herdsperson Apprenticeship Program

The program consists of an in-school curriculum and an on the job training component. The in-school curriculum consists of seven individual units which are offered at the Kemptville Campus.

The workshops are held at the Kemptville Campus for four days during the first week of each month from September until April. Each unit has a corresponding set of on the job training standards to be mastered on your host farm. Graduating students have commented that the hands on approach, interaction with instructors and flexibility of study are some of the benefits of the program. The opportunity to visit local farms and the use of the Kemptville Campus facilities and livestock add to this a very unique program. Graduates have applied skills and knowledge from the program at their host farms and have provided positive feedback to the program administrators.
