Horticulture Technician Apprenticeship Program



We are the Training Delivery Agent for the Horticulture Technician Apprenticeship Program in Eastern Ontario in partnership with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). The program is open to anyone currently employed in the horticulture industry that has completed their OSSD or equivalent.

The Horticulture Technician Apprenticeship Program features in-school training during the off-season, allowing students to gain invaluable technical information and upgrade their skills with minimal interference with the busy season.

Features:

  • Your employer registers you as an apprentice through the local MTCU office and you are eligible to collect Employment Insurance while attending classes.

  • There are two levels of in-school training in the program; Level 1 (Basic) and Level 2 (Advanced) both are comprised of twelve weeks classroom time.

  • Upon successful completion of the in-school training component, the student is granted a Certificate of Apprenticeship from MTCU.

  • If you want to upgrade your skills, increase your employability and make yourself a valuable asset to your employer, this is the perfect program for you.

  • Apprentices must be registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities before attending in-school training. Contact your local MTCU office (found in the blue pages of your telephone book).

Advanced - Level Two - 12 Weeks

L2-11 Plant Propagation – 48 hours

L2-12 Plant Production – 48 hours

L2-13 Irrigation – 24 hours

L2-14 Turf Management 2 – 36 hours
